The mission of The Education Channel is to invigorate the intellectual climate of community life by delivering quality educational programs that enhance Tampa Bay residents' opportunities to reach their educational goals.

The Education Channel was established in 1987 to provide Tampa Bay children and adults with high-quality, interesting educational programs. Since then, The Education Channel and its sister station the Tampa Bay Arts Channel have served the local community with a wide variety of exceptional educational programs all free of commercial interruption:

Mathematics Homework Hotline
Mini-Medical School
Classic Arts Showcase
Independents' Film Festival
Tampa Bay Education Digest

Working closely with community education and cultural organizations, The Education Channel has built a solid community reputation as a dependable and cost-effective way to provide practical educational programs to tens of thousands viewers in our community.

There is no other television channel commercial or non-commercial that focuses exclusively on the educational needs of the local Tampa community.

Making use of cable television transmission and new internet technologies, The Education Channel can reach very large numbers of viewers at the lowest possible cost. Unlike other local stations, we have no need to operate an expensive broadcasting station.

For the past twenty years, The Education Channel has relied largely on cable franchise fees provided through the local county and city governments. Recent budget adjustments have substantially reduced this revenue.

To meet this challenge, The Education Channel has formed a community-based volunteer Board of Directors and is now actively seeking financial support from individual viewers, educational organizations, and the business community.

Over the next five years, our goal is to develop stable community support for the mission of The Education Channel, so that its exceptional service to the community can be maintained and expanded, to meet the growing needs of both children and adults. Please join us to help ensure that your community will continue to enjoy access to this unique resource; a resource that helps grade-school children pass math, that helps older people understand the latest medical treatments, and that provides uninterrupted presentations of film, art and performance that can be seen nowhere else.
